Why am I an X-fan? How could I not be? The X-Men were my role models when I grew up and even today they still inspire me. When I was growing up I had a very tough childhood. My parents were going through a tough divorce, and on top of all that, I had no friends in school. My parents were so locked-up in the bitter divorce that I felt they forgot to pay attention to one important thing: me.

The X-Men comic books allowed me to leave my crazy world behind and focus on a group of outcasts who (despite being different) chose to help those that fear and hate them. That's a powerful message, and something I connect with very strongly.

As humans, we all feel 'different' at some point in our lives, and in some physical cases we are different. The X-Men promote accepting those who are different and promotes equality. This includes those of a different race, sexuality, religious belief, disability, etc. We are all human, and being different is beautiful.

This is why the comic book and franchise are so popular, and why it connects with so many people, including myself.
