David Benioff, who wrote the screenplay for TROY, has been hired by 20th Century Fox to pen the script for the planned WOLVERINE spin-off! The film is planned for a possible 2007 release, according to Avi Arad of Marvel Enterprises!
Though Hugh Jackman has not agreed to star in a spin-off film (or even X3) as of yet, the studio is pressing forward with the script, in hopes to woo the X-MEN star back for not only WOLVERINE, but X3: X-MEN! It's been said that both the X3 and WOLVERINE projects will be developed at the same time, and possibly even shoot back-to-back!
Though details are still sketchy regarding the film plot, it is most likely to deal with Logan's journey towards discovering his past. Rumors have been spreading around that Kelly Hu may return as the femme fatale, Lady Deathstrike (she's still contracted for another film)! Also, while he did not appear in X2, Tyler Mane may possibly return as Wolverine's nemesis, Sabretooth!
Benioff joins Simon Kinberg (who is currently penning the X-MEN 3 script) as the new forces behind the X-MEN franchise.
