(April 10, 2005) Vaughn Contributes; Actors Not Signed Yet; More

Sources in San Diego say that X3 director, Matthew Vaughn might add to the
X3 scripting process, by adding his own draft for the film. The script process
for X3 has been anything but simple! Simon Kinberg (Fantastic Four) was the
first to start on the X3 script. It was then, later re-written by Zak Penn (X2
co-writer). Now, according to recent news, Kinberg and Penn are both writing
new drafts from the original script...which was by Kinberg. But then again,
there are reports that Penn might have written a totally new script entirely. It's
confusing, and even XMF has to scratch their heads.
Anyways, back to the original point. Kinberg recently mentioned that Matthew
Vaughn was giving him some input for the script. Sources are now telling us
that it might even go further then that, with Vaughn submitting his own draft for
the film. This would be good, because it would mean that Vaughn isn't simply
directing someone elses work, but is having an actual say in what goes on in
the film. Many fans feared that 20th Century Fox picked a (mostly) unknown
director, so that they could control him, and turn him into a mindless zombie.
This doesn't seem to be the case at all.
IGN Filmforce came out with an article recently, that mentioned that Anna
Paquin had already been signed for X3. We're still getting word that she is not
signed yet. The same goes for James Marsden. As previously reported, Halle
Berry, Ian McKellan, and Patrick Stewart are all in talks to return. Paquin and
Marsden will likely be the last of the actors to be signed.
New character talk: IGN also mentioned that Gambit's role in X3 will be of
extended cameo-size, with Beast and Angel getting the main spotlight. We
cannot confirm or deny, but when we get e-mails on the status of X3, we
always get "Beast and Gambit are the new characters", which makes us
believe Angel may have a very small role. AICN also mentioned that Gambit
might have a bigger role, as the studio wanted to cast a "fairly big name" in the
role. What do we think? The script is going through SO many re-writes and
drafts right now, that nothing is certain. Character screentime is probally
changing everyday, so don't put your 100% faith in screentime, until the script
is close to being finalized!
